• Numbering classification

Numbering grouping – Numbering in the National Numbering Plan (NNP) is divided into two groups: geographic and non-geographic numbers. This makes it necessary to ascertain the kind of service involved.

– Non-geographic numbers

These are numbers for which a service, user or telephone terminal is not associated with its geographic location. They comprise:

(a) Numbers commencing with digit 1 identifying various telephony services such as:

• public assistance (11X and 12X),

• operator code (13X, 14X, 145X, 16X),

• operator code for country direct service (1459 XXX),

• information and assistance of government entities or non-profit organizations (15XX),

• for commercial purposes (17XX),

• services with special rates (1-8XX XXX XXXX and 1-9XX XXX XXXX).

(b) Numbers intended for use for mobile telecommunications services and identified by the National Destination Codes (NDC) 5 and 4, or any other National Destination Code (NDC) decided by SIT. They are structured as follows:

National destination code

Subscriber number

5

ABC XXXX

National number

National destination code

Subscriber number

4

ABC XXXX

National number

– Geographic numbers

These are numbers intended for use for fixed telecommunication services identified by the National Destination Codes (NDC) 2, 6 and 7, depending on the geographic zone, or any other National Destination Code (NDC) decided by SIT. The following should be noted:

• Geographic areas

– Metropolitan zone: this zone is identified by the National Destination Code (NDC) 2, as follows:

National destination code

Subscriber number

2

ABC XXXX

National number

The metropolitan zone includes the municipality of Guatemala and, partially, some municipalities of the department of Guatemala.

– Suburban metropolitan zone: this zone is identified by National Destination Code (NDC) 6, as follows:

National destination code

Subscriber number

6

ABC XXXX

National number

The suburban metropolitan zone includes the areas of the municipalities of the department of Guatemala not included in the metropolitan zone.

– Interurban zone: this zone is identified by the National Destination Code (NDC) 7, as follows:

National destination code

Subscriber number

7

ABC XXXX

National number

The interurban zone includes the departments of: Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, El Quiché, Totonicapán, Sololá, San Marcos, Retalhuleu, Sacatepéquez, Chimaltenango, Escuintla, Santa Rosa, Jutiapa, Suchitepéquez, El Petén, Izabal, Zacapa, Chiquimula, El Progreso, Jalapa, Alta Verrapaz and Baja Verapaz.

• Numbering configuration

– International number

The current configuration of international numbering is specified in ITU-T Recommendation E.164. Accordingly, the international number comprises a maximum of 15 digits, of which 15 ‑ n figures may be used for the National Numbering Plan (NNP), “n” being the number of figures corresponding to the Country Code (CC). Guatemala has been assigned country code (CC) 502. Consequently, 12 digits are available for national numbering. Thus, the format of the international number for Guatemala is as follows:

Country code

National number

502

National destination code
ABC XXXX

International number

– International access prefix

The international access prefix for users in Guatemala is “00” (automatic international long distance with prior subscription).

– National subscriber number

In accordance with ITU-T Recommendation E.164, the national subscriber number is structured as follows:

NDC

ABC XXXX

National destination code subscriber number

The present plan recognizes geographic and non-geographic national numbers.

Numbering for mobile communications for the Maritime Sector – In conformity with the international norms established by ITU, a 9- digit “Ship Station Identification Code” is formed as follows:

M I D XXX 0 0 0, in which:

MID (Maritime Identification Digits): represents the three maritime identification digits of each country. Guatemala’s identification number is 332.

XXX: corresponds to the three identification digits of the ship flying the Republic of Guatemala’s flag; the digits range from 0 to 9, and are assigned by the authorized entity of each country.

000: are the last three digits constituting the ship station identification code.

The format for these services is:

Country code

Ship identification code

332

XXX 000
